WHAT IS CORRUPTION?

WHAT IS CORRUPTION?

So what is corruption. Corruption is the cause and result of crime. It is the end, the start and the middle of crime. Corruption is perpetuated by humans. Corrupt humans continue corruption; Poisoning others around them. Today we are only seeing the results of bad habits compounded overtime. Compounded overtime by a selfish few who most of you give control over your decisions and international affairs; compounded by unfair laws and laws made in the name of equal rights and justice but only prove to remove power and resources from the masses to a select few. Most definitely compounded by the ignorant who perpetuate the depravity of his brothers and sisters through lies; giving the depraved false hope in wrong doings and laziness. These Bad Habits not only trickle down, but flow from the apex of the grand 'PYRAMID SCHEME' to all sides of the base. Causing some of my brothers and sisters to believe that lawlessness is the answer.

Merriam Webster dictionary website defines corruption as:

  1.  impairment of integrity, virtue, or moral principle :  depravity
  2.  decay, decomposition
  3.  inducement to wrong by improper or unlawful means (as bribery)
  4.  a departure from the original or from what is pure or correct
The first definition on the site defined corruption this way:
dishonest or illegal behavior especially by powerful people (such as government officials or police officers)

All the definitions are most fitting and tells what is happening to our society because of corrupt persons. The most straight forward definition I saw was 'Corruption is the misuse of public power (by elected politician or appointed civil servant) for private gain.'

So from these definitions we get that society has a view of our officials in power. That view is that our public officials should treat every man and woman fairly. If one gets a favour from an official as opposed to another person it may very well be seen as corruption. Because the one who didn't get a chance to the favour will feel cheated and discriminated against.

I am very much tempted to say that only our public officials especially politicians can be corrupted. And I will defend that view point. But before, can we agree that ordinary civilians and public officials all have rights and access to the same resources? I believe so. And we should agree that committing a crime is not corruption. Well, the definitions say, corruption is a process of decay or action due to down grading to a lower level of behaviour. So persons who are viewed as saints are said to be corrupt when they start doing evil. I think that the basic definition of corruption would say they are now corrupted:- They left a good (higher) state to a bad state.

Therefore, anyone who is viewed as having a reputable position in society, like our politicians, police officers, doctors, lawyers judges, pastors etc., should uphold the law and execute judgement fairly. Technically, only those viewed as being good at first, then going to do something bad can it be said are corrupted. That is what the definitions bring to me. But in real life we know that every baby was born innocent; a clean slate. So by our human and societal standards, if that baby grows into a criminal, that baby was corrupted. For sure! What that baby grew into is called a corrupt person. But thank God all behaviours/ mindset can be changed (in this case for good).

NATURALLY CORRUPT

Then, from real life experiences its not the people who are naturally corrupt. So what is then? Since behaviours are taught, what is the source of corrupting our people? I say and I know that the SYSTEM is naturally corrupt. Yes our system of governance is the problem. So all the talk about getting rid of corruption is mumbo jumbo (for the sake of a better word) if changes in how the people are led are not made. I am sorry to say it, but from the conception of our system and style of government, the poorer classes were doomed. By its very nature of division into socialist and capitalist, now known as 'orange' and 'green' respectively, it, the West Minster style of government, decided that 'tribal wars' would claim the lives of many. Any good work persons have experienced from our leaders and government, is the responsibility of the natural and learned good character of our 'aristocrats', technocrats, bureaucrats and citizens.

My respect goes out to the persons who have looked past the negative of their government and served not only their country but the people of Jamaica honestly and fairly. It is because we are naturally not corrupt why we expect others not to be. So why should we continue with the hurt and pain of corruption?
